Whimsical Miniature Worlds Created Every Day for a 365-Day Calendar

Artist Tatsuya Tanaka creates intricate miniature worlds that are equal parts thoughtful, detailed, and whimsical. On a daily basis, the Japanese artist works on his Miniature Calendar project by utilizing everyday objects, handmade tiny figures, and an immense amount of imagination. With these tools, Tanaka fabricates diminutive scenes that mirror relatable situations we'd witness in our own life-size world.

“The theme is ‘the interest of likening one thing to another,'” the creative told designboom. “In doing so, you can see how everyday things can become more fun when imagined in a different way. It is important that the ‘miniature calendar' is understandable in its intention for everyone–young and old, of any nationality. So, I try to use familiar things and address familiar matters.”

What's most incredible is that Tanaka has continued to produce this project during each of the 365 days of the year. Thus far, he's designed more than 1,000 elaborate scenes and it doesn't seem that he'll stop anytime soon. Thanks to this remarkable artist, there will always be a small-scale spectacle to help get our own creative juices pumping.
