Who's Behind the Most Iconic Images of Our Time? (11 total)

Lyle Owerko

If you've ever been curious about who the photographers are behind some of the most iconic images of our time, take a moment today and go through Tim Mantoani's Photographer Portraits. A photographer himself, Mantoani started this project back in December 2006, when he decided to put away his digital camera and try shooting with a 20×24 Polaroid. What followed was an amazing and personal journey.

Here's how he describes it.

"It has been the most rewarding project I have shot to date. I do not have a trust fund, I am not independently wealthy, I refinanced my home to do this. (Did I mention I have the greatest wife in the world?) Believe in yourself. Remember, the rollercoaster is more fun than the merry-go-round."

Steve McCurry

Phil Stern

Walter Chin

Nick Ut

Joe McNally

Douglas Kirkland

Carl Fischer

Arthur Elgort

Fabrizio Ferri

Harry Benson

Mantoani's currently working on finding a sponsor to help with an exhibit of all of the 20×24 images. To date, he's shot over 120 photographers. The goal? To travel this show around the world and have a book out in the fall of 2010.
